Is there an audition?

Yes – you will need to do a short audition. The audition protocol is available to anyone who is interested in joining. Prospective singers need to sing a prepared piece, and do some rhythm, music reading and ear tests at approximately Grade 4 AMEB standard. Please contact us if you would like a copy.

Do I need the ability to read music?

Essential!

Do I need to have the ability to sight-read?

Highly desirable

What are the membership fees?

$460 per year (2026)

Where and when do you rehearse?

The choir rehearses once a week (usually excepting school term holidays) on WEDNESDAY evenings (7.45-9.45pm) , in the Ashburton Uniting Church. Off street parking is available.

How many performances do you do?

Anywhere between three and eight. On average we have four.

Does the choir go on tour?

No, although we have performed in country Victoria.

Would I need to purchase a uniform?

No. We ask Singers to perform in a black long-sleeved top (red at Christmas time!) and black skirt or long pants, or black dress and leggings/tights, with black shoes.
